The types of services
Toxicology Consultants can provide are diverse and vary from individual to
individual. For industrial clients, a toxicology consultant might provide
written reports on the known or potential adverse health and/or environmental
effects of chemicals which the company uses, manufactures or disposes of. A Toxicology Consultant might assist the client by developing a toxicity testing strategy
for a new product that complies with Federal, state and local, or
international regulatory requirements. The Toxicology Consultant might
monitor animal safety studies in progress to ensure that they are being
conducted properly, or prepare protocols and work with laboratories to get the
necessary studies done. Toxicology Consultants can interpret and summarize the results
of toxicology studies individually and as a group for litigation, the
preparation of regulatory submissions or informational materials for use in
educating juries, workers, customers or the general public. Many Toxicology
Consultants serve as Expert Witnesses in litigation involving alleged adverse
effects of chemicals on human health or the environment. The toxicologist can
also advise attorneys regarding the development of factual evidence and the
strengths or weaknesses of the opponents' case and determine cause and effect
relationships.
